Our track record with Importing and exporting animals TRAGIC :

• Blackbirds sparrows and Indian Mynahs
• Feral goats and pigs devastated bush in 19th century and still do
• Rabbits - changed our landscape forever
• Buffalo, camels and donkeys in NT - untold damage to grazing lands
• Cane Toads - ecological disaster
• Possums to NZ - destroying whole forests

Successes -

some native creatures have come back from near extinction.

CANE TOAD
Jim Haynes

Scientists will all attest
The cane toad is a noxious pest.

With eighteen poisons on his skin,
Ugly warts and wicked grin.

He gobbles up our native creatures
And, with his ugly toxic features,

Poisons those that try to eat him,
Let’s hope that science can defeat him.

(Meanwhile, when on a Queensland road,
Please don’t swerve to avoid a toad.)
