SYDNEY BEACHES

Last week we looked at the beginning of beach swimming and surfing:

• William Gocher swam in daylight at Manly in 1902
• Duke Kahanamoku introduced the surfboard in 1915

In 1906 The first surf life-saving reel in the world was demonstrated at Bondi Beach on 23 December 1906 by its designer Lester Ormsby.

QUESTIONS

Sydney SUBURBS were often named after places in UK … But BEACHES were often kept an aboriginal name or by an incident like a shipwreck or other features of the area
